Zero. The logic behind the main theme & chartists who don't make money
1
Resource Conglomerates vs. Tech Conglomerates
Resource conglomerates need a steady stream of geopolitical events to get a share of the spoils in a new era led by tech conglomerates. In fact, ongoing wars are closely related to the increasingly polarized distribution of technology gains, concentrated in the hands of a few. In other words, as long as technology does not press pause on second-derivative growth sovereign states or interest groups far from the high-value-added segments of the technology value chain will continue to face higher geopolitical risk premiums and greater volatility. This is to be expected.
Since last year, I've been telling you that there are only two paths in the market that could and can become the main themes: one is technology and capital expenditure, and the other is commodities and resources worldwide. This judgment is not based on an industry perspective, nor on the cyclical perspective many people talk about. It is about people; essentially, the question is who is going to make money. It's right to follow the wealthy to make money, just as Munger said: you should fish where the fish are. You can't make money by following the poor all your life; only by following people who are doing well can you possibly do well yourself (so my advice to most friends on living a happy life is also very simple: find the person doing best within your reach, then cling to them and don't let go).
Within the visible range, Human resources, viewed collectively, are necessarily relatively limited. This means that the speed at which Party A acquires resources will have a significant impact on Party B’s decision-making (the relevance of actions is the most fundamental assumption in game theory); people often focus on the endowed party, but the endowed party and the constrained party always act in tandem. You could also say that wherever there is an endowed party, there must necessarily be a corresponding constrained party. This is the fundamental logical reason why there will always be (at least) two main themes in the market at the same time.
The endowed party itself engages in a short-term incremental game (the direction in which liquidity flows), while the constrained party engages in a short-term stock game (conflict and war).

The significance of price is this: They Know Something. This is why our anomaly column remains so highly effective today. As long as the market is made up of real people (and people are the sum of their social relationships), this will always be effective.
No one can know what is happening everywhere, and in fact, there is no need to.For an individual, figuring out what is happening in one particular, highly specialized field is an extremely difficult task.Just ask yourself whether you could explain in depth, within 3 minutes, what industry you currently work in, how you make your money, and what important marginal events are unfolding. That will show you how difficult this is.
Chart analysts analyze the consensus behavior behind charts. In a sense, Ian’s statement, “I’ve never met a rich chartist,” is absolutely right, because if you analyze charts, you will analyze nothing at all. Not just Ian—I have never met a “chart” analyst who made a lot of money either. I can tell you this plainly: never. It is like tracking a criminal’s shadow. Is the shadow the criminal’s trail? Yes, but if you only catch the shadow, you will never catch the criminal himself.
If you are determined to make money through charts, you can—but you have to move beyond the surface of “charts” as early as possible. Drawing lines all over a chart is meaningless and cannot make you money. What matters is the consensus behavior behind the chart, and how the behavior seen today (before buying or selling) affects behavior tomorrow (after buying or selling)—planning, anticipating, and carrying out the plan. It is like reading my weekly newsletter: if all you see are charts and lines, then you have not really understood it.
I. Macro Trading Positioning
1
An extremely important horizontal level, US10YA weekly close on the 07 weekly chart formed a Failed Breakout. Whether this develops into a topping pattern is crucial to whether yields can find a new anchor.
US10Y(Weekly chart, as of 261004)
Friday’s employment data were significantly weaker than expected, but not terrible. The headline figure for job gains was far below expectations, and the unemployment rate edged up to around 4.2%, which is still low by historical standards. In addition, the rise in unemployment came from increased labor-force participation. Against a backdrop of slow population growth, the situation remains acceptable even with few new jobs.
Wages are especially worth watching: wage growth actually slowed this month. Without strong wage growth, it is difficult to get the kind of classic inflation spiral seen in the 20 century’s 70s, in which rising wages drive inflation, and inflation in turn drives further wage increases. At present, we see no sign of this mechanism. Workers do not seem to have much bargaining power. Many people say it is difficult to find a job, and in this context, they do not seem to be getting substantial pay raises either.
After the data came out, bonds rallied sharply and the entire yield curve moved lower, but then with news of the conflict between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia (which occurred as oil prices reached our gold line level)), all of the gains were given back (interest rates and oil prices once again showed a strong correlation):
US10Y layered on topBRN(Minute chart, as of 261004)
This is what I have always argued: prices drive the news, not the other way around. The news you see only happens when it is supposed to; behind the news are the actions of real people, and behind those actions are real financial interests. That is all there is to it. This is not a simulation game, with randomly generated or occurring events; this is the real world. You can see all of this very clearly on the chart.
BRN (daily chart, as of 261004)
This also means that for yields to truly peak, one of two things needs to happen: 1/ oil prices decisively break below the gold line and enter a downtrend (fully resolving this issue from a cross-asset perspective), 2/ yields and oil prices become unmoored from each other...

Over the past week, both Jefferson and Williams of the New York Fed expressed opposition to a rate hike in 10:
https://www.newyorkfed.org/newsevents/speeches/2026/wil260929(Williams )
1/ On 9月29日, Williams said at the University at Buffalo in New York that after taking policy action in 9月, “there is no need for urgency”and there is time to gather more information; if the economy evolves as expected, another rate hike could still be appropriate later this year.later in the year another rate hike could still be appropriate.
https://www.federalreserve.gov/newsevents/speech/jefferson20261001a.htm(Jefferson)
2/ On 10月1日, Jefferson said at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business that future policy adjustments should take account of data trends, the economic outlook, and the balance of risks; “my colleagues and I will need to come to our own judgment, which may take more time”—that is, it may take him and his colleagues more time to reach a judgment.
Both are among the Fed’s most senior policymakers, and the market has taken note. A rate hike of 25 basis points in 12 is expected to be possible, followed by two more hikes the following year.

Last week’s newsletter noted that “France’s key tension is its large deficit and the political difficulty of pushing through spending reforms, so the pressure is more likely to be concentrated in the government bond market.” Some readers messaged me to say that using FR10Y/US10Y may not accurately describe Europe’s problems. That is indeed the case: the France–U.S. ratio can describe differences in problems between Europe and the U.S., while the France–Germany spread is generally used for Europe’s problems:
FR10Y-DE10Y(daily chart, as of 261004)
For sovereign debt problems, a country can generally have its central bank print money to buy bonds, raise taxes, cut spending, or rely on growth to escape the predicament. But these options are all constrained for France: it does not have independent monetary sovereignty and cannot print money on its own or have the European Central Bank buy all its debt; it is only one member of the ECB system. France therefore does face the possibility of defaulting or being unable to repay its debt... The debt problem is consequently extremely difficult, and it is reasonable for the market to price in greater risk.

KOSPI(Weekly and daily charts, as of 261004)
The Korean index remains precisely trapped below the white horizontal line (none of my lines are drawn at random; they are all carefully drawn. Some people’s lines are worthless, while others’ lines are worth a lot of money). During this period, randomly reacting to various indicators, news, and intraday fluctuations is unlikely to lead to a good outcome, apart from further deepening the account’s drawdown.Learn to act at critical moments.
In addition, daily momentum details remain above the baseline, which means the outlook still favors an upside breakout. Keep an eye on it.
...
SOXX(daily chart, as of 261004)
US-session semiconductors have made a new high since the pullback, after SOXX entered an upward channel in the Ariston Channel and the weekly trend turned bullish; the unleveraged position is now +10%. People with a short-term focus on one or two individual bars cannot possibly capture the profits.I have said many times: an uptrend is an uptrend. It is not about me or about my saying that prices are forecast to rise or fall; it is simply an objective fact. My (your) job is just to state the facts (should only state the facts).
Move the take-profit point to the bottom of the base before the gap opens.
SOXX (daily chart, as of 260910): Update after entering the uptrend channel
The gap-down day after entering the uptrend channel (in fact, if you go back and look now, you’ll see that this was the day’s low)
Not one of the lines I draw for you is arbitrary. What we call a key price is one where you can make decisions about entering and exiting with a clear rationale, a position where you can seek a larger return by taking on relatively little risk exposure—or, put another way, seek a larger return while taking on the same risk as others (those other “professional traders”).。There’s more to a position than just the risk-reward ratio. Many people learn a few terms and then keep repeating them without really understanding them.
The risk-reward ratio matters, but it has no practical significance, because the ratio you expect has no bearing on how the market will actually move. No matter how well you design it, the outcome is mostly just a coin toss: it gives you no edge and is not sustainable. My lines are comprehensive dividing lines that incorporate directional bias in the distribution of price moves, probabilistic odds, and risk management design.
I’m no stock market guru, and there are no stock market gurus. The point I hope to convey to you all here is this:I also don’t want you to make becoming a stock market guru your goal, because that is impossible。As market participants, all we can do is try our utmost to find the key moments best suited for taking a swing, and to manage our entries and exits with a clear rationale while protecting ourselves. Arrogance, low self-esteem, and a fixed mindset cannot achieve this. Only a rational, objective, growth mindset—combined with a timidity that is more cautious than anyone else’s—can do it.You shouldn’t be afraid of making mistakes, because mistakes happen most of the time.
Whether it’s the weekly publication or the posts, one good thing for you is that all our content is clearly documented and every piece states a clear viewpoint. Most people can’t do these two things, and don’t dare to.
Essentially, this is a diary belonging to someone else that you can browse freely. So 1) you can assess the validity of all our views; 2) you can see the complete thinking and actions behind every decision, from its inception through to the exit—how the successful ones succeeded and how the failed ones failed. We never shy away from failure; on the contrary, dealing with failure is our main job. 3) You can discard what doesn’t work for you and take what does from our actual market experience at any time, gradually building your own system. This is the process of accumulating practical experience.
Your job should be to deal with failures and losses, because the profitable positions will take care of themselves.

EWZ(daily chart, as of 261004)
As planned, the Brazil short position was closed at breakeven and flipped. The fundamentals are unchanged; our discussion from last week still applies here:
“The reason this is difficult to trade is related to Brazil’s increasingly complex election situation.Brazilian voters remain divided into two camps. The polling gap is within the margin of error, but there is little enthusiasm for either Lula or his challenger, Flávio, while the other candidates are struggling to catch up with them. This fatigue stands in stark contrast to the strong engagement spurred by the severe recession in 2018, the anti-establishment wave after Dilma Rousseff’s impeachment, and the disputes over pandemic management and the survival of democracy in 2022.
This is reflected in market bets through similarly “balanced” pricing; in other words, prices are unlikely to develop a trend.Unlike the recent elections in Peru and Colombia, which have become more ideologically polarized and could determine the countries’ direction, Brazil’s basic structure is likely to endure regardless of who wins.
However, if Flávio wins, the bias to the upside would be greater, and rate cuts could reach 200 to 300 basis points. We are ready to revise our view at any time.” — 《ARI’s WEEKLY WRAP 260927》
Four. U.S. Equity Market Positioning
1
SPX(daily chart, as of 261004)
The index offers an unfavorable risk-reward profile. Being long means there are bottom-up, divergent bullish directions within the market structure that can be traded. IWM, continuing to close precisely on the white line Keep monitoring small-cap performance as a key proxy for assessing recession risk. USDSEK, unrealized profits continued to grow this week, The T1 target price was hit precisely. After partially reducing the position, the remaining position was passively exited by the Stop. Chart:《ARI’s WEEKLY WRAP 260920》
Understand that price can chart a perfect move on its own,1/ My lines are drawn only at the most critical moments and in the most critical places. The USDMXN gains continued to grow during the week and precisely triggered the T3 target level planned when turning bullish. Some of the position was taken off for profit here, while the rest was passively moved by the PT to the area of a minor consolidation, 2/ just like USDKRW (see the issues published over the past 2 months). This continues the opening theme, “Chartists who don't make money”: if you think you can make money just by drawing a line, that is an overly naive idea. The chart itself cannot give you anything. Truly outstanding moves that can fully unfold, and price action that allows you to enter and exit with sound reasoning, must be price action validated by all three systems (fundamentals, price action, and cross-asset relative pricing and capital flows).

USDCAD(daily chart, as of 261004)
USDCAD, the smooth advance continues, with a potential Failed Breakout looming. An overbought pullback may occur first, so the Stop will not be moved up yet to avoid being stopped out. It should be moved only after 1/T1 is triggered, 2/ a pullback builds a new setup/value area.
4
USDBRL(daily chart, as of 261004)
USDBRL, holding a long position; moved the stop up slightly. The first round of elections takes place on 10 month 4 day, with a possible second round on 10 month 25 day, followed by fiscal policy; these are key drivers of the exchange rate. After the first round in 2022 and USDBRL years, 2014 fell, but fully reversed before the second round; in 2018, the real was strongest on the Friday before the second round. Therefore, The first round can cause major exchange-rate volatility, but it may not last; the market can turn quickly, and we must be ready to change direction at any time, putting ourselves on the side of the winners.

CMX Gold (daily chart, as of 261004)
Precisely supported by the rising white line.
Over the past month, CTA sold 470 ten thousand ounces of notional gold, but the gold price did not make a new low. This suggests to some extent that the price impact of the selling was smaller than normal, and that the market showed strong capacity to absorb it.
In addition to ETF and discretionary trading participants, another 77 tons of outflows were absorbed through spot trading, EFP and other arbitrage trades. If gold continues to fall sharply, CTA may reach its effective maximum short position next week, thereby limiting the source of further selling pressure.
If this selling gradually eases, prices may find it easier to move higher. Of course, this depends on the price holding above the white line。
